The Basics
Introduction
Witch Trainer Silver is a complete rework of Akabur’s original game, Witch Trainer, which was initially created using Ren’py version 6.18, and was released in 2014. Our approach involved deconstructing the entire game’s code and reconstructing it from scratch. Throughout the process, we consistently updated and refined the code to meet modern standards and ensure compatibility with the latest versions of the Ren’py Engine. A significant portion of the artwork was redrawn to ensure compatibility with modern devices while retaining the general aesthetics we all love so much. New characters and events were also introduced, and the gameplay loop was expanded to provide a more engaging experience, incorporating various ideas that we believed would enhance the game.
The project remains completely free and open source and is continuously in progress. You can stay updated on its development by following our blog posts and announcements or by directly reading the git logs.
History
Determining the history of Witch Trainer modding scene is difficult, because most of us were not involved in its inception and were unaware of its existence in the past. Please be aware that the subsequent account of events is only an approximate and retold version of the history, and it may not be entirely accurate. Take it with a degree of scepticism.
2014 – The release of Witch Trainer
The game was received well, but the fanbase was thirsty for more.
2015 – The emergence of the modding scene
The origins of the first initial project are shrouded in uncertainty and have branched out in various directions. The consensus seem to be that the game was so inspiring, that many wanted it to never end, but because the original game was already complete, they took it into their own hands to expand the idea. Initially, it appeared to be developed by one group, but multiple versions seemed to have emerged from different creators on many different platforms.
Various mods began to surface, like Bitch Trainer Mod, but not all of them were particularly significant since the game had only just been released. Nevertheless, during that period, groups started to form, and many modifications started appearing on different forums and image boards.
2016 – Creative Free-for-all
After the completion of the Bitch Trainer Mod, the fanbase was still eager for more, and three significant mods emerged, capturing attention of the community: the Russian Edition Mod, 4 Houses Mod, and lastly, the WT-Silver Mod.
2017 – Out with the old, in with the new
The 4 Houses Mod and WT-Silver Mod were both abandoned.
However, a new individual from the community stepped in and took charge of the two mods, merging them into a single mod, under the group name known as Team Silver.
2018 – The fallout
As time went on Russian Edition Mod was also abandoned, and the fans of the Russian Edition Mod weren’t happy, but the sorrow was short-lived, as a new individual emerged to step up and carry on the works – Feodosiy.
In that very year, Feodosiy successfully accomplished the tasks they had planned, thereby completing their mod.
Team Silver on the other hand had encountered some additional challenges, mainly due to their founder’s prolonged absence, which ultimately led to the disbandment of the team.
2019 – Founding of the Silver Studio Games
A few months after Team Silver disbanded, two members of the old team, along with several new members, came together to establish a completely new group under new leadership, and goals. They decided to name this new entity Silver Studio Games.
Our Goals
Our primary objective is to enrich the experience by introducing new content consisting of fresh writing, scenes, characters, artwork, and stories while staying true to the game’s light-hearted premise and spirit. Simultaneously, we aim to ensure seamless compatibility with all modern devices and resolutions, providing a smooth and enjoyable experience for all players for years to come.
We want to emphasize that this is not merely a preservation project. Instead, it’s a comprehensive revamp, where we have extensively added and modified dialogues, stories, characters, and events to align with our vision for the game. A lot of content has been altered, removed, or completely remade to create a cohesive story that reflects our creative aspirations.
